Serengeti - my perspective
Growing up in Frankfurt, I was a regular visitor to the Frankfurt Zoo and Bernhard Grzimek, who used to be the director of the Zoo is still very prominent all over the zoo today. For example you can see a replica of his airplane and one of the buildings named after him.
I also loved documentaries about African wildlife and as such the Oscar winning documentary "Serengeti shall not die" by Grzimek was one of my favorites.
So to put it short, ever since I've been a small boy, I had been dreaming of Serengeti. And now, age 33, finally my wish was granted and I could see it for myself.
This experience is mirrored in the Serengeti info centre were Grzimek and the Frankfurt Zoological society are prominently featured.
What stands out most about Serengeti's wildlife are the lions. If you want to see a lot of lions then Serengeti is the best park to go to. We saw a lot of them, from small to big and the highlight was when we saw a pride of lions hunting gazelles. Actually, the real highlight was probably when we the lions came into our camp to look for water.
All in all it was a fantastic experience and I am glad that I finally got to see Serengeti. However, depending which time of the year you go and if you can only go to one park, I would actually suggest you go to Masai Mara instead of Serengeti. Masai Mara, in my mind, has the nicer landscapes and you have a better variety of animals, at least if you travel there during the summer months when the migration is in Masai Mara.
