Bangkok 3 days 2 nights with a toddler
Going to Bangkok for a few days used to be a thing that Simona and I did a few times a year before Olivia was born. When we realized that Olivia is one and a half now and had never been to Bangkok, we agreed it was time for us to book a short trip to one of our favourite cities again. However, we were a bit worried that with a toddler, we wouldn’t be able to visit all the same places.
Watch our video and read more in the text below:
Getting there
Getting there was super easy. It’s just a two hours flight from Singapore and Olivia is very used to flying by now. This was her 27th flight.
Before departure in Singapore. Everyone is happy and excited.
Despite all of her experience, Olivia still seems to get nervous and needs to pray ;) Or was she just sleeping?
Renaissance
We decided to stay at the same hotel as we stayed at when Simona and I first traveled to Bangkok together, almost 6 years ago. The Renaissance hotel is very close to the Chidlom station and only a very short walk from Siam and even closer to Central World.
We were lucky to get a suite - yay!
“What? You guys mean we are already leaving the room again? I thought we would stay here all day and watch cartoons?”
Streetfood / crocodile bbq
Bangkok is well know for its fantastic street food but look at what we saw - a crocodile bbq.
Asiatique
One of the really cool places that we go to every time we visit Bangkok is ASIATIQUE, a huge complex that houses countless restaurants and a night market. Here you can buy clothes, accessories, fake watches and many other things.
Getting to ASIATIQUE is already exciting, as we always take the ferry. We take the train to Saphan Taskin and then board the ferry at Sathorn Pier. The ferry ride only takes 5-10minutes and Olivia enjoyed it a lot because the boat went very fast.
Baan Khanitha By The River
Within Asiatique is this restaurant the we really really like and we keep coming back.
Doesn’t it look beautiful?
“May I recommend...”
Olivia’s priority was eating, not taking photos.
Chatuchak
Chatuchak Weekend Market is one giant flea market and I would say, hands down, the coolest place in Bangkok. Here you can buy all sorts of stuff - fashion, home accessories, fake flowers, lots and lots of food and all kind of bizarre stuff, too.
If you ever need a tortoise shell helmet for your crocodile, Chatuchak is the place to buy it.
It’s always very crowded and can get really hot.
One of the things I like about the market is how creative and inspirational it is.
Definitely a good place to buy decorations, lamps accessories. We bought these lamps for ur wedding.
Fresh fruits
Seafood
The best mango sticky rice
And look at this smoothie.
Olivia enjoying her first ever coconut water.
The Deck by Arun Residence
After the market we went to this restaurant for dinner. The views of Wat Arun are amazing but. The food and the service were also great.
Pretending to have table manners or just so hungry that she is pretending to eat.
The camera eats first. Even Olivia’s camera. And I need to wait.
Simona’s pomelo salad. Look at that back drop. Wat Arun is truly impressive.
My duck confit
Mango sticky rice but this time with black rice.
Once it gets dark and the lights are turned on the view is even more stunning.
Shopping
Shopping in Bangkok is always inspiring because even when you go to a mall, you will see stores that you have never seen before. Generally Bangkok has a really good mix of big international retailers and small local boutique shops.
This mall, Siam Square, was new for us. It has a really interesting architecture and interesting shops like LINE VILLAGE.
Our all time favorite is Siam Center. Fancy a new Parada bag?
Olivia totally agrees.
White house - Feuang Nara
This Restaurant is another all time favorite of ours. It is super cozy and the food is super delicious. Especially the pork and the crab meat curry.
Outside seating.
Inside view.
Olivia likes it too.
This pork is amazing.
Super yummy crab curry. Not spicy but with a lot of crab meat.
Of course we have to get some more mango sticky rice before we leave.
Going back
Oh no, already time to go home.
Somone insisted on pushing the stroller. A few hit and runs later, we arrived at the gate.
Priority boarding thanks to Olivia.
Olivia is inspired by the fashion she saw in Bangkok. What do you think of her outfit?
