Swakopmund
Honeymoon - Day 23 to Day 26
We reached our accommodation at Burning Shore after it's dark. It's a small hotel with 10 rooms. Our suite has 2 bedrooms, with a living room in the middle. Looks like it's for a family π That made me imagined our little family travelling together in the future. βΊοΈ (Yes! I'm hopeful that we'll still travel when we have kids.)
I like how the double room was kind of like an attic room. When I was excitedly describing how much I liked it with my hands pointing here and there, Mr. B was yawning. π Then I remembered he'd stayed in an attic apartment when he was a teenager, and he wasn't impressed with the heat during summer Lol
We went downstairs for dinner, and the food was surprisingly good.
βWhen we went back to the room, we found that the room was quite cold. There's an old fashioned heater with heating tubes (those that turn red when it's on), and at first we were quite worried...but then it got quite cold so we had to use it. It was okay though.
Mr. B was falling sick and later in the night he had rashes. At that moment I realized I didn't know what kind of meds he takes when he has rashes and how to help him...π
The next morning he drove to Swakopmund and bought some meds in a pharmacy. We then had breakfast at the hotel, and rest in the room.
In the afternoon, we went to Swakopmund for sightseeing. Β
Our first stop was Woermannhaus - I pronounced it so well that Mr. B politely asked to see the map π
It's been converted into a gallery, and you can pay to get in.
Next, we went to another "haus" around the corner. Mr. B wasn't so interested so we didn't go in.
After that, we went to Jetty 1905. Since we had time, we walked to the end of the jetty and then walked along the beach. Pretty nice!
After that, we went to the main street for souvenirs hunting.
We wanted to go to the Tug which is a restaurant by the beach, but they only serve drinks before 5pm so we didn't stay. We also went to the Jetty 1905 restaurant and the Kuckis (the one that we didn't go the day before), but their kitchen weren't working as well. Looks like the people here don't eat between meals.
In the end, we drove to the supermarket, Super Spar, and bought water and snacks.
Went back to the jetty at 5pm and wanted to have dinner at the Tug, but we were told that it's fully booked for dinner. π It's really a nice place and if we'd known we would have made reservation in advance.
Β
We then went to the Jetty 1905 restaurant. Their kitchen was open (finally something is open!) and we ate there.
I had seafood soup and grilled fish with fries.
The food was great. If anything the portion size was a bit too big for me.
We watched sunset there. How could a honeymoon trip be without a romantic sunset dinner? β€οΈ
There wasn't much in town after dark, so we went back to the hotel. When we planned for the following day, we found out that it would take 11-12 hours to drive to Luderitz (if we don't take the gravel roads - Mr. B was still unwell and our car wasn't meant for that).
After some discussion, we decided to change our plans and skipped Luderitz. It's a pity that we couldn't go there, but it was good that Mr. B could rest and recover, and that we could have some relaxing time in Swakopmund.
So, we decided that we would stay one more night in Swakopmund and then one night in Solitaire before going to Sossuvlei.
We canceled our booking in Luderitz and booked the Bon Hotel in Swakopmund for the following day.
The following morning we had breakfast at the hotel and then read in the room until check out time. Then, we drove to the Bon Hotel which is on the third floor in Dome. Dome looks like a pretty new building, which has some recreational facilities, a hotel and two restaurants.
The Bon Hotel is a new hotel and the room is quite spacious and neat. The bathroom is little small but it's good enough. The only problem with the room was that the heating function of the air con wasn't working...so we switched it off altogether.
We went downstairs to eat at the bistro. There's a blackboard outside of the bistro telling people what sushi is and how to eat it.
Mr. B ordered a Greek salad and a burger with fries. I ordered broccoli soup and 4 pieces of rainbow roll. The waiter was stunned for a moment like he couldn't believe someone was actually ordering that.
When the waiter was on the way to our table with the plate of rainbow rolls on his hand, the family sitting behind me asked the waiter what that is and requested to have a look (I felt quite odd that other customers looked at my food...). They were skeptical.
After a while, that family asked us if it tastes good. Mr. B said yes and suggested that they order one plate. The other guy wasn't convinced. Haha lol
Actually, I think the sushi roll was quite good, so we ordered one more dish. The waiter was more excited than us! When he came with the new plate of rolls, he told us that the chef was half Japanese. That's what I thought :p
As for dinner, since we didn't want to go out, we made use of the delivery service from the restaurant downstairs.
I had broccoli soup and seafood basket which included fish, fried calamari and grilled prawns.
The following day we went downstairs to have breakfast at the bistro. It's included in the room rate. Then, we filled up the tank and on the road again.
Next, we're going to Solitaire! π
