From Johannesburg to the Kingdom Resort (Pilanesberg)
Honeymoon - Day 14 & 15
Leaving our lazy life at Bluebay Beach Resort behind, we headed to the airport. The airport at Zanzibar is rather worn out, but at least it has a terminal building. Our boarding passes were again handwritten, but at least the names were correct. Surprisingly, there's a lounge at the airport that we could use while waiting to board.
We took budget airline, Mango Air, to fly from Zanzibar, Tanzania to Johannesburg, South Africa. Yup, we're flying to a new country and we're on our own! I was a bit nervous but it's also exciting!
After 3.5 hours, we arrived in Johannesburg. While queuing at the immigration, I looked around and found myself in a civilized place again. There's air-conditioning, proper lighting and even advertisements!
Before picking up our rental car, we went to an arrival lounge, Ses'Fikile lounge, to have quick bits. It melt my heart to see (and have, of course) instant noodles and sparkling grapes juice! 😍
When we're with our sliver SUV and on the road again, the sun has just set. We were quite anxious due to the reputation of Johannesburg....Mr. Husband was stressed since he's the one driving. I took the time to take pictures and videos. It appeared to be much more developed than Kenya and Tanzania. There's paved highway with lamps, proper houses and building...But...the people here seemed to think it's alright to walk on the highway with a speed limit of 120km/h (and apparently driving beyond the speed limit is a norm). Some walked along the highway, not just on the road shoulders but in the middle; some even crossed the 4 lane highway...!!!
We drove all the way to the Kingdom Resort without making any stops. It's already passed 8pm when we arrived and it's quite cold. Like other places we've visited in Africa (except Zanzibar), the daily range of temperature is often over 20 degrees.
Our room is small but clean and tidy. The bathroom has shower and a bathtub. Heater doesn't exist in the room or the bathroom. The blanket is thick enough so it's not a problem. Apart from heater, wifi is also nonexistent. Well, that means Mr. B slept very early 😆
With daylight, we find the resort pretty nice. It's quite a bargain as the room rate is around $50.
This morning we had breakfast at the cafe in the resort. Our "king breakfast" was filling and tasty. Mr. B is very happy that there's Internet in the cafe.
We're going to explore the Pilanesberg national park today!
